Research

The Chair of Material Handling focuses on innovative approaches in bulk material handling. The research areas include the application of the Discrete Element Method (DEM), experimental investigations, the use of IoT technologies in bulk material handling, and the simulation of material flow systems with bulk materials.

Our test facility provides space for large-scale, industry-oriented test setups. Currently, the following test rigs are available:

  • Belt conveyor test rig with a bulk material circulation system (15 m in length),
  • Circulating test rig (approx. 7 x 6 m) for the investigation of bulk material transport processes,
  • Test rigs for the determination and analysis of wear processes caused by bulk materials,
  • Crane simulator of the bridge crane located in the test facility.

Additionally, we have a specialized bulk material laboratory for examining the specific properties of bulk materials (including a Schulze ring shear tester) and a computer lab equipped with high-performance DEM simulation systems.
